Summary | Though the number of corona cases has inreased in Japan when I visited
Miyako and Tarama Islands. I guessed the number of infected people pass the peak in August and may be decreasing in September. However Japanese medias are still reporting the number of infected people every day, it might be going away soon. So I planned to go abroad for the first time afte the pandemic. Thailand is one of easing entry restrictions country. And then considering the season, it comes Gulf of Thai. I chose Pangan Island where the nearest island from Sail Rock one of my favorite dive site. |
Itinerary | I had dived three days at Sail Rock last time, two day in tihis time and
one day in Tao Island. Almost of all airlines tickes to Bangkok are expensive due to high oil prices and weak yen. So I chose the Vietnam Airlines, transiting Ho Chi Minh City and that is not inconvenient. There was only joint ticket departing night, morning ticket was not held by Lomprayah. I prefered domestic airline to joint ticket. One night stay near the Bankok Airport. Next day heading to Samui Island, and then one night stay in Caweng. Move to Pangan Island by ferry, then two days diving at Sail Rock. In addition, one day diving in Tao Island. After that, back to Bangkok by Lomprayah's ferry and bus. As the arrival in Bangkok is late night, one night stay at Khaosan, and one night near the Saiam. |
Bangkok | Just sleeping one night, I choose the hotel near the Airport. Lat Krabang Staion next staion from the Suvarnabhumi . I guessed I was able to get to the hotel easily by walk, but it was so hard to find the hotel after sunset. |
Koh Samui | For the first time for 7 years in Samui Island, and just one night in Samui. Arrival in the evening, taking photos in the morning and moving to Pangan around noon next day. |
Samui~ Pangan |
According to the reserch beforehand, the boat bound for Pangan depart from
the Pralan Pier in Samui. There is no public transportation to there, so I asked the hotel to move the pier for THB500 including the boat fee THB350. Waiting the departure time in the port as getting there somewhat early . We about ten person were ordered to get on a small bus. The bus took us to another port, I found out it was the Bangrak Pier. Several hundred people got on the boat which was bound for Tao Island and stoped Pangan on the way. I saw the boats bound for Samui from Pangan were small boat with outside engines and for 30 or 40 person later. I gessed it changes the number of passergers flexibly. |
Pangan Island | From the port to the hotel, there were sharing taxis for THB150: for 5
or 6 person on the bed of a truk. They don't start until full generally. |
Diving | Sail Rock Divers | 1st day | 1 | Sail Rock | 2 | Sail Rock |

Not quite clear, and not amazing blue sea at Sail Rock in this time. Less school of fish than usual. |
Koh Tao | Just one day's diving in Tao Island, I have thought 3dives in the day but
4dives actually. The boat don't stop the Mae Haad Port, anchoring off the caot in th west side of Tao. We were taken by cars and moved from the coast to the diving boat by small boats. Diving boats anchored off the coast of the Ban's Resort at lunch time. |
Diving | Ban's Diving Resort | 1 | Lighthouse | 2 | Red Rock | 3 | Wreck | 4 | White Rock |
Bad visibility at Sail Rock, it was worse than Sail Rock in Koh Tao.、5m at better place, 1 or 2m at wore place. |
One of reason why I went to Koh Tao was to see colorful Christmas tree worm. | ||
To Bangkok |
The same schedule from Tao to Bangkok as usual, having lunch in Chumphon.
The hotel in this time was next to the hotel last time. |
Last day | Since the flight was evening, I went around the Siam after checking out. MBK: there was Donque not Don Quijote near by, Siam Paragon, Siam Center, Siam Discovery. |
